Fargo Davies' fifth, sixth runners make difference in N.D. By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Fargo Davies won an incredibly tight team competition Saturday in the North Dakota Class A girls championship race at Bjornson Public Golf Course in Valley City, N.D. Fargo Davies tied Grand Forks Central as both teams scored 88 points, one better than Bismarck Century, which scored 89. Davies beat GF Central on the sixth-runner tiebreaker, with Payton Lane taking 28th compared to Hannah Hynek's 45th. GF Central and Bismarck Century both had two runners ahead of Davies' first, but Lane was faster than either of the other teams' fifth scorers. Sophomore Kelby Rinas of Mandan won the Class A girls race in 18:15.8, beating Bismarck junior Mattie Shirley-Fairbairn, a Foot Locker finalist in 2016, by nearly 10 seconds. Senior Evan Sayler of Bismarck Century ran 15:42 to win the Class A boys race and was the only runner under 16 minutes. Century won the team title as well with 60 points, edging Williston (64). Sophomore Reagan Baesler retained her Class B girls crown and led Hillsboro/Central Valley to a repeat team championship. Baesler ran 18:27.5 and won by 32 seconds. New Town continued its streak of small-school domination in North Dakota with a 29-point effort in Class B. New Town went 1-2-4-7-15, led by winner Jaiven Hale, a junior. The team title is New Town's sixth in a row.
